Description

Shambhala is truly a joy to experience; a place of retreat and tranquillity. This perfect tropical home enjoys complete privacy on a six hectare pocket of Daintree rainforest.

A multi award winning house with all the modern amenities, Shambhala resonates sympathetically with the spectacular surrounding environment like a natural cathedral in the rainforest.

Combining the best of Asian design with traditional North Queensland style, the three pavilions are separated by breezeways filled with tropical vegetation and overlooking calming water features inhabited by vibrant water lilies. Clever design allows air to flow freely throughout the home and enhances the use of natural light.

The master bedroom pavilion looks out on the pool and is connected to the exterior deck by a covered verandah. An inviting spa in the ensuite bathroom has views over the valley to the third largest mountain in North Queensland. This pavilion also has a study, laundry and car port.

The central pavilion houses the gourmet kitchen and living areas and a separate air-conditioned media room and library. A spotted gum verandah flows off the living area with views across the infinity pool to the rolling lawns, pond, tropical fruit trees and rainforest-clad mountains beyond.

Upholding Shambhala's theme of spoiling all guests, the third pavilion comprises two guest rooms with open decks fronting each and complimented by luxuriant bathrooms.

Reviews

We have never felt more relaxed and connected with the earth and nature, and enjoyed every minute

It’s difficult to describe this place in words. It’s a “feeling” place. The serenity of the location is what hits you first, a combination of the majesty of the forest, the ever-present but soft sounds of nature, and the splendid isolation which most of us have never experienced before. You immediately feel at one with the surroundings and appreciate the peace that often comes with silence. The house, the unique house, sits very comfortably and seamlessly with the trees, the grounds, the pool, and the planting. It draws the outside in, and the inside out. It seems to be part of the rainforest and shares itself with the local flora and fauna, and with whoever might be staying. The extensive use of timber throughout the house, in beams, decks, louvres and the furniture itself evokes the connection with the forest. For us, the house design occasionally reminds us of Japan, or Fiji, or Indonesia but definitely reflects the laid back attitude which is Australia. The architect has it just right, providing the mix of comfort and convenience without destroying the blend with nature. How wonderful it must be to create a design like this. We suspect that this has been a labour of love for the owners, reflecting their personal preferences in location, placement and overall integration of the house itself, but also in the elegance of the purpose designed furnishing, fans, and décor. It's a wonderful place to be in, and to share, evidenced by the birds, lizards, and frogs who also take up occasional residence and remind us that we can all be here together. We have never felt more relaxed and connected with the earth and nature, and enjoyed every minute.”
