Description

The Northern Tuli Game Reserve is a wildlife conservation area protected as a wilderness of savannah, riverine forests, marshland, open plains and sandstone cliffs. It is not only a unique wilderness area with an abundance of African wildlife, but also has a rich archaeological history. The earliest evidence of life in the area are the fossil excavations which have been found in the Shashe Limpopo region.

The region was inhabited by Stone Age man, as the forerunner to a series of civilisations including the Mapungubwe culture of the 12th and 13th centuries, and the Zimbabwe civilisation.

Santhata is situated within the Pitsani Game Reserve which comprises a total area of in excess of 27,000 acres.

The Pitsani Reserve lies within the Northern Tuli Game Reserve, a recognized wildlife conservancy found in the north eastern Tuli Block of Botswana, bordering South Africa to the south and Zimbabwe to the east.

This land with its huge panoramas, big skies and giant trees, welcomes you to a whole new adventure. Experience an abundance of elephants, large cats, herds of antelope and more than 350 species of birds. Where the present echoes with footsteps of the past, making it difficult to leave, and impelling to return. This is Santhata!

Santhata consists of 7 luxurious double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

The social/entertainment area comprises a splendid sitting room and adjoining eating area. The lodge has a conference facility, access to an office and a large equipped kitchen.

The evergreen Santhata garden has a pool and wooden pool-deck overlooking the Limpopo River.

This camp guarantees wildlife as it forms part of a very special and active piece of land.

The manager’s camp is located within the confines of the site but is detached from the main lodge. The camp is fully serviced and includes a cook. So although self-catering, once you are there the food is cooked and tables prepared. A ranger is on hand to take you on a your game drives.

Reviews

TRIP OF A LIFETIME !!

We are a family of eleven people aged from 5 to 68. I stepped way out and our first Third Home stay was at Santhata Camp in Botswana. Our family will always remember what an exciting, unusual, beautiful and educational adventure we enjoyed. Staying at Santhata Camp was the REAL DEAL ! The owner and North Tuli game manager, Piet and ranger Cedric were very patient and totally helpful. Planning a trip with 11 people to another continent then traveling from Johannesburg, South Africa to Botswana was very complicated compared to most vacations. My husband did not want us to get our family in any danger or bad situation. The trip could not have turned out any better. We were so comfortable at the camp. Every meal is served out side on the edge of the Limpopo River. Looking across the river to the South African side was an abundance of animal activity all day long. We took too long game drives every day with our Botswanan ranger guide, Cedric. I wish I could post pictures of the up close encounters we had with lions, hippos, elephants, giraffes, zebra, cheetahs and hyenas. The game drives are in a fine Toyota Landcruiser which carries 10 people. We marveled at what we saw. June is the African`s winter and the temperatures were perfect, cool of 44 degrees to a high of 80 degrees. This trip is not for the faint of heart or ones wanted luxuries. The staff, food and surroundings are so unique and pleasant. One night the staff took us six miles out into the bush, to a very high knoll for a candlelight and camp fire lavish dinner with a beautifully set table. Mischievous vervet monkeys visited our lodge every day. The owner, all the way from London, arranged for our food delivery. Piet arranged for us to go see a village, Lentswe-Le-Moriti, where even though the school had no electricity the children from 5 to 13 year of age are learning English and Setswana. My daughter, an art teacher, had brought bags of art supplies for the children. Santhata Camp is located about one hour`s drive from the Botswana border. It is in the Pitsani Game Reserve which lies inside the huge North Tuli Game Reserve. When you are there you are truly in a conservatory for many species of animals and birds. Our family learned so much and had a TRIP OF A LIFETIME !! ”
