Camel Quarry House

Description

Situated a stone’s throw from the charming Cornish fishing port of Padstow, this stunning house lies on the doorstep of the famous Camel Trail cycle path, named after the beautiful River Camel nearby.

Peppered with sandy beaches popular amongst the surfing communities, this stunning part of North Cornwall is ripe for exploration and with exquisite views.

The house itself is a radically bold and beautiful eco building made from slate, wood, concrete and glass. It was designed by eminent architects Mclean Quinlan and features a box-like open plan top floor that gives vast, uninterrupted panoramic views across the Camel Estuary. Inside, everything is streamlined and uncluttered. The modern furniture is oversized and deeply comfortable with lots of creamy linen and warm oak. The exquisite design incorporates a Tom Dixon candelabra and a Sophie Ryder sculpture.

Camel Quarry House features a fully equipped and stylish kitchen with a walk-in fridge.

There are six bedrooms, each with their own stunning view and en-suite bathroom. Four have king-size-beds, the other two can be arranged to suit your party.

*Cot and highchair available on request.

This wonderful house features a home gym with a Nautilus running machine, rowing machine, a punch bag, and a DVD player; a multimedia room with surround sound and a huge LCD screen TV with DVD player, along with a card/bridge table, two BBQ's, one in the terrace and the other in the garden, and a mooring if you want to bring your boat.

The imaginative and magical garden is every bit as well-planned as the house, with a luxurious hot tub and a stylish fire pit being two of the many features you will discover as you stroll around. It was designed by Mary Reynolds -who won the coveted Gold Medal for her ‘Celtic garden’ at the Chelsea Flower Show 2002-. Look out for the Myburgh Designs swinging pumpkin seat and the fire-pit!

After a long day of activity and adventure, Camel Quarry House is your cosy sanctuary to come home to. Winter visitors can curl up in front of a crackling open fire while taking in spectacular and uninterrupted panoramic views, while summer visitors prefer to relax on the terrace, with a chilled glass of wine in hand as the barbecue sizzles. Of course, the bubbling hot tub goes down well all year round!

There is a daily cleaning service provided by Jane, who will also welcome you on arrival.

Stunning House in Outstanding Location

Camel Quarry House is a wonderful, contemporary house built with the highest quality materials and expertly designed to maximise its outstanding location, set high above the beautiful Camel Estuary. The main living area with 360-degree views of the Estuary and surrounding countryside is on the top floor and has full-length glass windows on three sides, one of which opens onto a large furnished terrace with BBQ. The spacious bedrooms (mostly ensuite with more wonderful views) are on the lower two floors together with a media room (great choice of DVDs) and a gym in the lower basement. The house is superbly equipped for large groups (including a large walk-in fridge and two dishwashers) and the very helpful Housekeeper lives on site providing daily cleaning and being available to deal with any problems. The feature garden with interesting sculptures, a hot tub and a fire pit leads down to the Camel Trail path (the former railway line for the old quarry) which runs between Padstow and Wadebridge and offers beautiful walks in both directions. The drive to the house which runs through five fields could be a challenge in bad weather for some cars but we managed it in a mini without any problems (as instructed we left the porche at home)! We had a wonderful week in this stunning house and would highly recommend it. Thank you, Emma, for allowing us to share your little piece of paradise!”

What a beautiful experience!

There were eight of us traveling from the United States to stay at the Camel Quarry house this past week. The trip to get there through London is a bit of a hike, but so very worth it! The home has one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen, and is extremely comfortable and well-equipped. The bedrooms were also quite generous in size and have their own bathrooms. Jane, the caretaker of the home, was extremely helpful and even drove us to dinner the night we arrived, as we did not have any transportation. You must have either a car or rent bicycles in order to commute from the home. I would definitely suggest a four wheel drive if you opt for a car. But biking to Paddstowe and Wadebridge along the camel trail was so much fun! We took a quick taxi to Port Isaac, the city in which Doc Martin is filmed, and highly recommend that side trip. We hope to return again in the future, as we all loved our stay! Thank you, Emma! ”
