Cold Mountain Estates Review - Pros and Cons

This property is in a wonderful location.. I spent two weeks there with friends joining me periodically. We visited Asheville, the Biltmore Estate, many shops, and some excellent eating establishments, as it is only a thirty minute drive from the house. Nearby Waynesville is a quaint, friendly village offering nice shops and good restaurants A trip to the town of Cherokee and a tour of the Cherokee Boundary was especially interesting and also good shopping. The countryside is beautiful and would be especially nice in the fall with the colors or in the spring with the many rhododendrons and azaleas. The house is large and architecturally interesting, offering decks and balconies from nearly every room, especially nice for fabulous sunrises and sunsets. There are many spacious rooms, and an extensive library for guests' use during their stay. Unfortunately, the property is not being well maintained, especially the house. A heavy door completely fell off one of the kitchen cupboards, and others were sagging or would not close. There was a large hole and crack in the living room/stairway wall. There was mold in several bathrooms, and dust on surfaces throughout the home. The carpeting needed a thorough cleaning as did the entire house. There are many, many lights in the house, but nearly a third were burned out, and there were no spare bulbs. There were few hand towels and wash cloths and many of the bath towels were stained or ragged. There were holes in some of the sheets and some beds were uncomfortable. There are two hot tubs, but the one in the recreation room cannot be used and the outdoor one had a cover that came completely off and was extremely heavy to lift, so extremely difficult to use. All deck and outdoor furniture was dirty and had not been cleaned in a long time. The pond is definitely not a swimming pool and was unattractive to look at as it was partially empty, exposing the black vinyl liner and the water was extremely dirty and stagnant. The landscaping was overgrown and barely resembled the photograph on the website. We contacted the property manager who stopped by while we were out and she dropped off a front door key which we had requested and some equipment so we could clean the hot tub, but did not come back again, although she promised to do so. She said she would send a person to fix the cupboards, and lights, etc, but did not. It is sad to see a property with such wonderful potential being so neglected. I would love to return someday if it were restored to its former "glory" but I cannot recommend it as being up to 3rd Home standards at this time. ”
