Beautiful Place That Lacks Privacy
Eleuthera is a beautiful and peaceful island that we enjoyed very much. The beaches were beautiful including the one at Sky Beach. The locals seem to wear flip flops everywhere. One note is that you must have a rental car to really explore the island and to get to the many charming out of the way beaches and restaurants. The house at 9 Sky Beach had a great floor plan that was perfect for four couples and a great ocean view. The beds and linens were very comfortable and the kitchen worked well for our group. They had fixed some of the issues mentioned in a previous review. The primary reason we only give this property three stars is that the pool and hot tub are EXPOSED to the road that runs by the house. Any time a car or person comes up the road you feel invaded. To give you an example of the lack of privacy, the ladies in our party chose to sunbathe topless by the community pool at the club/restaurant rather than lay out by the attached pool. It is worse than “not private.” Smaller items: Our wifi did not work for three of the days of our stay, but was fixes before we left. Also, we had an issue with 5 or 6 very small mice. Nick, the manager, provide us with traps that handled the problem, but since it was mentioned in a previous review it bears repeating. Nick and Cece were fabulous and always responsive and always willing to help make our stay better. Pascal’s, the restaurant at the community pool, served very good food. Sammy, the bartender, made the best drinks we had on Eleuthera and we made a fairly comprehensive study on the subject;<) We really enjoyed Eleuthera and would consider going back, but will not going back to 9 Sky Beach or to 29 Sky Beach, which is the same unit, unless they provide some screening for the pool. ”
Eleuthera is aptly described as a quiet, peaceful island with warm welcoming people and beautiful uncrowded beaches. We were not disappointed and enjoyed our week on this small Bahamian island. We wish we could say our expectations were met for our stay at 9 Sky Beach. This 3rd Home did not match or live up to its glowing description of "every detail dedicated to modern luxury, comfort and total privacy." To begin with the back patio with an infinity pool is literally within 10 feet of the road leading down to the resort's community pool and restaurant. Without landscaping or screening there is NO privacy and this outdoor pool area is neither inviting or comfortable. There is a reason why the only exterior picture of the infinity pool and patio area is shot with the home strategically featured in the background and at dusk. And while the interior pictures do capture the beautiful turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean know that the road is in the forefront and visible from every window. This home features modern lines and spacious rooms with an open floor plan. However it is clearly showing its age with tired, chipped and worn wood furnishings throughout. There are water stains and drywall areas needing repair around the mounted wall ac units and at least one of the ac units was not functional. Fortunately the temperatures were moderate so this was not an issue. There is only one sitting area to watch TV, read a book or just relax. And the built in wooden sofas while functional are not inviting nor very comfortable. Despite the listing of "multiple TVs" there is only one moderately sized flat screen TV in the living room. Quite a bit of the time we had no satellite signal reception but the wi-Fi was excellent and accessible throughout the home. We did not find the "finest in modern accommodations" even in the master suite. The picture of this room features unfettered ocean views from patio doors. However the roller shades have been replaced with cheap white aluminum vertical blinds that are very difficult to open and close. Also missing is the tv prominently featured in the picture of the master suite. The master bath with the stand alone soaking tub and the large shower stall is lovely. But again because there is no privacy screening, the large picture window with an expansive view of the ocean needs to be covered when using the bath tub or shower. The kitchen looks inviting but is woefully under stocked and ill equipped. Most of the cabinets featured in the pictures are empty. One would expect a full complement of dish and glass ware. We found exactly 10 dinner and small size plates, 7 small drinking glasses, 3 tall plastic tumblers and 6 coffee mugs. No cups and saucers, soup or salad bowls and only 1 serving platter. The kitchen lacked most of the basics: a colander, hand mixer, Pyrex baking dishes, pot holders etc. This is not a kitchen that allows for cooking any real meals. We discovered that both the disposal and the dishwasher were not working and the kitchen had a pest infestation. For those interested in sitting and sunning by the pool, in addition to the lack of privacy, being on the Atlantic side with mostly eastern exposure provides limited hours of direct sun and is usually quite breezy. Instead plan on heading to one of the many uncrowded and tranquil beaches on the Caribbean side. Unfortunately this home has no beach chairs to use but does provide beach towels. And finally we think it should be disclosed that the "thoughtfully planned community" consists of only a handful of pool side accommodations and a few private residences. Construction on this development was halted more than 5 years ago when the developer experienced financial difficulties and the property was taken over by the bank. We were told that Sky Beach Club Resort is now under new ownership and there are plans to resume build out in late 2015. The pool area and restaurant have undergone recent renovations. Pascal's Bistro and their bartender, Sammy, make it an inviting place to catch a bite to eat or drink. Additional compliments to Nick Sims, the onsite property manager, who was very responsive and always willing to help make our stay more comfortable. This home when first built may have been a luxury residence but is now in need of refurbishing, restocking and updating. It needs some TLC to bring back its shine and match its current description. great place to spend a relaxing vacation!!!
9 Sky Beach Club Resort Residence was one of the best places my husband I had ever stayed at. As soon as we checked in, we were offered welcome drinks, courtesy of the Sky Beach Club management. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Upon awakening in the morning, we looked out the glass doors and were greeted by the Atlantic Ocean's mesmerizing turquoise blue waters... The house itself was very luxurious with a vanishing edge pool that we did not use as the nearby beaches were so beautiful and secluded. If you are looking for a getaway--- away from the maddening crowd, pink fine sand beaches, warm and easy going people...Sky Beach Club in Eleuthera, Bahamas is the place for you...(we found our Paradise!) Thank you Tim (the owner) for sharing your piece of Paradise with us.”
Home is nice but....
Its a nice home (needs some maintenance) but is located in a resort that appears to have not finished its development. Island is also undeveloped so you will struggle to find restaurants and activities. We needed to rent a car, drive an hour north, and take a water taxi to Harbor Island to find activities.”
