Great Island but the home and development need some work
We stayed a week at the Sky 29 beach Club. It was a decent place. The home was OK, does not have a pool as advertised in the pictures. The drive in the development has holes and bumps all over it like you are driving in Afghanistan. The staff was very friendly, the beach club was cool, and the chef at the beach club restaurant was very good. They have music by the pool some nights so that was nice too. We wont be going back, but it was a nice little family getaway regardless. ”
"Diamond in the Rough"
A friend and I did this as a last minute getaway -- esp before I went skiing (yes, sea and ski that I always wanted to do). Here goes. House - great design/dramatic and private with wonderful view. Built-ins/baths are very nice esp. the master. However, one can tell that the house is on the VRBO circuit with zero art-work and minimalist furnishings. Sidebar but I think you will get the idea re: dishwasher-- Viking, no less, was abused by another party-- they literally knifed the internal buttons so it did not work (shocking) and short story is that the management replaced the appliance while we were there. Given that getting anything done in the Bahamas-- esp the Out Islands-- takes some doing we were pleasantly surprised. The house is well-stocked with paper towels, etc. so that is helpful. Again, you have the "bones" of a good set-up here. This house is an investment, not a personal property so eyes wide open, please. Sky Beach is part of a failed development (4 houses complete out of 30 or so intended) from financial crisis era that is in process (hopefully with the third or fourth set of investors now) of being what it was intended-- a top notch development right on the beach. The "roads / driveways" were never done properly and are a mess. Again, this COULD be fixed with $$$ once they get back on track. You "do" get used to it after a while. It is on the same "stretch of beach" as the Autograph Collection - French Leave development a few miles down the road so the reef-protected beach is amazing. Was relieved that toward end of our stay the beach was being raked and trash emptied. Dave and I would have done ourselves, trust me. This beach does not regularly get much ocean debris so please do not get the wrong impression. Please note that there are less than 10 people on this huuuuuuge beach at any time. This beach goes on for more than a mile. THAT is wonderful. The Americans are generally around the pool at Pascal's and the Europeans and others like us are generally at the beach (smile). Twice during our stay a curious dolphin came up to us to check things out! Thankfully CeCe (on-site care-taker / management) told us at lunch that dolphins live out at the reef and will come in close to shore to prance around. He/she put on a good show on once of those occasions. CeCe - she's wonderful and we developed a rapport to try to make sure this particular property is ready for the next guest and point out various things. Sammy the bartender - always a ready smile. Did we meet Nick? Maybe....he probably replaced the dishwasher while we were out! Miscellaneous - the conch fritters at Pascal's on property the best (better than Tippy's). Ha ha. We had lunch there twice / enjoyable. Did not make time to try dinner since we had a very defined schedule of what we wanted to do! Yes, you have to do Tippy's for Saturday evening dinner / enjoyable "adult" island-inspired covers. French Leave for lunch or dinner is a must. Damn that is a beautiful property. We went to Harbour Island for the day on day....Sip-Sip for lunch (just trust me, do it) and walk and swim Pink Sands beach. And then we trekked to Harbour Island for cocktails and dinner to Rock House another evening. Driving an hour north to get to the water taxi will not be for everyone. If I could connect Sky Beach / French Leave with Harbour Island easily-- that would be ideal. Back to Sky Beach-- sitting out on your terrace with a home-made mango daquiri (buy fresh mangoes, use the blender and mix with Mount Gay rum) watching the stars and esp the shooting stars is not to be believed! Bring your own meat (freeze thoroughly beforehand) and certain provisions if you want to cook in. Alternative-- BACCHUS FINE FOODS (near Tippy's in our central part of Eleuthera) is the key to finding what you need to bring it all together. I think you need to go into this with a certain mindset-- it is not the Ritz Carlton in St Thomas; the vibe is different. The raw material of the reef protected Atlantic beach is wonderful and can't be re-created. You have enough "stuff" around you to mix things up and have a wonderful time with family and friends. If the investors can get things going- -this development will be wonderful. Yes, I'd go back - we are "experts" as to how to "do" Eleuthera now. p.s. Extra credit-- look for Ocean's Tally in the North. We went there during the day when the restaurant was closed (it is also a resort)....seriously crazy folly that is supposed to have amazing food. And the view is wild. ”
Laid back island living
We returned a month ago from a very enjoyable vacation in eleuthera. If you want beautiful unpopulated sandy beaches, turqoise waters, a spacious villa and quiet relaxation then you will find it in this island and villa. All this and not to mention a great host. Highly recommended for those who want to get away from it all. Jon and terri ”
29 Sky Beach, Eleuthera
Beautiful house , great views of the Atlantic side, great access to beach and pool. House very well equipped and furnished . Kitchen absolutely top flight . Only negative comment , we felt this was a "3rdhouse", not a third home. Needs some attention to decorating, softening this great house. Loved Eleuthera, and this is a great location on the island. ”
Awesome home on the Atlantic
The home at Sky Beach Club is fantastic. The home's location sitting above the Atlantic is spectacular and the home itself is truly wonderful. Large airy light-filled common rooms and four nice en-suite bedrooms, 3 of which face the ocean. Central Eleuthera moves at a very slow pace, so having the restaurant and bar just a stroll away was wonderful. The beach in front of the house is really nice. All-in-all, if you are looking for a low key relaxing home this is a good choice.”
The view and the beach are magnificent The place is for someone who is looking for a beach experience which is quiet and subdued. Property site needs some construction completion but the home is very comfortable and again has great beach access.”
We just returned from a wonderful week at 29 Sky Beach, in Eleutthera, the Bahamas. What a lovely island and charming little resort. Pink deserted beaches...great pool, wonderful staff and great food at the Bistro. The only thing that could make this better would be the completion of this small resort which only has 4 of what seems like 30 home sites completed. THe home has three fantastic bedrooms with views and great bathrooms. THe 4th bedroom does not have any views and a smaller bathroom which was dissapointing at first but we never really spent time in our rooms . The Great Room was fantastic. Outdoor Terrace wonderful and a great kitchen. All 4 couples had a wonderful time. THe island is best described as sleepy, rugged, almost desolate. THis is not an island for those looking for casinos, shopping, and action. But if you are looking for privacy, deserted beaches and charming coves this is your island. Very lovely people and suprisingly good food was found at every place we ate...Sky Bistro, TIppy's, The Beach House, THe Rainbow Inn. We would definitely return. ”
