Description

Mayreau is the smallest inhabited island in the Grenadines, with an area of about 1.5 sq. miles, and a population of less than 300. The island is mostly populated by fishermen and supported by tourism. The population is centered in Old Wall village, located on a hilltop in the southwest of the island. It is accessible by boat. Electricity is provided by a Vinlec, the state electricity company. There is a single lane concrete road leading from Saltwhistle Bay to Saline Bay and through the village, and a new series of simple roads have been built to allow access to the island’s eastern beaches.

The top of the island is crested with the small school, several restaurant/bars, two provisioning shops, and two churches. The school has about 50 students in Grades 1-6.

The island gets much of its water from three catchments set on the east side of the island. Saline Bay is named for the salt pond just east of the sandy beach. Salt was harvested and exported in times past but is now only harvested for local use. Mayreau also has a small resort area; Saltwhistle Bay. It is a popular and beautiful spot for anchoring yachts. From the crest of the hill beside the Catholic Church, there is a beautiful overlook of the Tobago Cays, Canouan, and Union Island. In the refreshing Caribbean waters of the Grenadines, among the famous verdant cays that dot the ocean there, lies a tiny island called Mayreau. Only minutes from PSV and Palm Island and barely 30 minutes by speedboat to Mustique, it remains a pristine enclave of white sandy beaches, and boasts a vibrant local culture.

While the small fishing village welcomes visitors, the island remains relatively untouched by tourism and makes a most worthwhile escape. Do as little or as much as you like. Swim with the turtles. Do yoga on the beach. Snorkel with the reef fish. Scuba dive to an underwater volcano or sunken ship. Learn to kite surf. Read a book. Sail to Chatham Bay for lunch or to Canouan for a round of golf.

Tribu Mayreau Island will offer a seaside dining area, a beachfront snackbar, and limitless ways to turn each meal into an unforgettable experience. The dining area, with each table discretely laid out to ensure maximum privacy and incredible ocean and sunset views will delight. But guests at Tribu will have many more options. A candle lit table set at the end of the beach, with the waves washing up at your feet. Or a twilight boat trip to Mopion Sandbank for the ultimate private island dining. Or, don’t even leave your residence – have the 5 course meal delivered to your own hideaway.

The menu will be inspired by the sea’s bounty – offering whatever fresh catch the Mayreau fishermen were blessed with on any given day. A mediteranean inspired menu of grilled meats, fresh vegetables, and locally grown fruits and vegetables will be available most nights. On other nights, the beach bbq and bonfire or the Saturday night fishfry are a must try. And for guests looking for an extra bite of variety, your Private Island Navigator will gladly arrange an incredible meal at one of the many restaurants on the surrounding islands.

The villa at Tribu – Mayreau Island are ocean and sunset facing. The villa has private pools and are surrounded by exotic private gardens, terraces and courtyards – bringing the outdoors in and the indoors out.

Reviews

Amazing villa in the Grenadines

We stayed at the Villa at Tribu in April. The architecture of the house with different pavilions and the open layout which emphasized the views were so well designed. We loved all of the amenities: the gym, the kayaks, the paddle boards, the ping-pong table as well as the beautiful quality of linens, towels and sheets provided to us. The best was definitely the service of the Chef McLean who was so kind and knowledgeable especially since I have food allergies. His cuisine was always excellent that you wouldn't want to go eat anywhere else! Thanks for this memorable stay at the Villa at Tribu.”

Exceeded our expectations in so many ways

Our stay on Mayreau Island at Saya Sarah through 3rdHome exceeded our expectations in so many ways. Our discussions with the property manager, Chris, the week prior to our visit represented the property and staff well. The gracious staff made us feel truly welcomed and special and the professional prepared meals by Chef MacLean was like eating at a 5 star restaurant throughout our stay. The grounds and surroundings are gorgeous. The weather was ideal as was the changing daily beach view of passing mega-yachts, cruise ships, and sailing vessels of all sizes! The architecture is a brilliant mix of warmth and light bringing the outdoors in with elegant and tasteful art work and furnishings.”
