Description

Enter the wrought iron gates flanked by stone columns and a pair of foxes and continue down a 1/2 mile drive of forests and trails to your lodge. As you do so you will spy the 5 acre stocked lake and perhaps some horses grazing on this 110 acre horse farm. An inviting in-ground swimming pool with large deck under a magnificent shady maple overlooks the pool, lake and pastures. We provide 5 rods for fishing, where we have large-mouth bass, catfish and bluegills. There are 5 miles of trails to walk through and see who can spot the most wildlife. A ride on the farm motor vehicle, the Gator, is ready to give you a welcome tour of the property. At this very private estate, build a fire at the campground and enjoy smores as you gaze at the star filled sky. Visit the horses by day, do not forget the carrots. The smoker is a big hit with the gentlemen-ladies, take the night off! Eat BBQ made by a noted local, or purchase BUFFALO less than 2 miles away and take a free farm tour. Situated in the rolling hills of the Blue Ridge, nothing is seen but paddocks, horses, forests, trails, wildlife, lake, etc; and except for the owners in the Manor House, no other houses or people. The Lodge is a spacious and homey 1800 sq. ft. authentic wooded walls, beamed ceilings, large stone Fireplace, 4 Bedrooms, 2 of them downstairs, each with a Queen bed and private bath. Up the spiral staircase 2 additional bedrooms 1 with a Queen bed and 1 with 2 twins and shared full bath, all very charming. The entire Lodge has just been repainted and wooden floors sanded and varnished.



Things to do for all age groups For the youngsters there is a jungle gym, trampoline, play croquet-with a competition set for #12- and horseshoes, BBQ w/gas grill, playhouse for the children, as well as a desk complete with markers, coloring books, small activities; build a fort, wildlife spotting, (heron, fox, deer, eagle, etc), wonder at the heavens-we have some of the best star-viewing in the East, Catch frogs, tadpoles, a chipmunk, who knows what? Fall colors are indescribable, Spring blossoms wondrous, and our mild winters make it easy to escape and enjoy the property or hibernate in front of the great stone fireplace. The possibilities just need your desire to activate! If you are a camera bug? The frames are endless animals, skies, forests, landscape, lake, pond, and more. Just want to relax? You won't believe what peace,quiet and serenity Mother Nature can give. Watch the sunrise, take an early morning swim, walk about the farm,(our pooches will be glad to accompany and protect you from the big, bad squirrels, etc), visit horses, read a book and picnic on 1 of the many perfect spots lakeside or forest, drop a line in the lake, return to wine and watch your favorite movies on the new 47' flat screen TV, or sit on the porch, relax, and really talk. Skyline Drive is just 21 miles away for 1 of the most beautiful drives and hiking in the US.

In Autumn gorgeous colors abound. Culpeper has been rated as one of the 100 Best Small Towns in America, fine dining, antiquing, Civil War battlefields, roller skate, bowl, the National Archives and Va. history-Montpelier, etc; the Skyline Drive-one of the most beautiful drives in the country, hike, Air Circus-a fabulous show of daredevil stunts, skydiving-our son will tell you all about it-, ballooning, mountain biking, a good public golf course. Wineries abound, and Culpeper has several fine restaurants. The Inn at Little Washington is a short, pastoral drive for the finest of dining. Civil War sites abound for the history buff.

HORSES- the lodge is a perfect huntbox or place to stay while at Commonwealth, eventing or fox hunting, with a 9 stall stable w/matted 12x12 stalls & turn-out w/auto. waterers. You will have use of a 300x200 jump ring, dressage ring, & trails w/45 log type jumps.

Fox hunting - 6 clubs w/in easy distance: Rappahannock, Bull Run, Warrenton, Thornton Hill, Casanova, & Old Dominion Hounds.
