East Hampton Villa

Description

East Hampton offers the vacationing guest a large selection of charming accommodations. In addition, Nature has given East Hampton a marvelous combination of beautiful ocean and bay beaches. There are many parks and picnic grounds for the family to enjoy. There are many charming boutiques, antique shops and art galleries in East Hampton's quaint villages and hamlets. The restaurants and gourmet food shops will please even the most critical gourmand. A six-theater cinema is available for movie buffs, as are two outstanding theaters for live theatrical productions. For the sports person there is fishing, boating, golf, tennis and horseback riding.

An historical must see while there is the Home Sweet Home house, which is the most distinguished lean-to in East Hampton. The house is believed to have been built in the 1720's while the parlor paneling is attributed to mid 1700's. It is a simple, dignified house, unnpainted, after the fashion of the best houses of the ancient village, its exterior of rough shingles is bare of all ornamentation except that which the graceful hand of time has lent it.

The men who built this house and others like it in East Hampton were English settlers; with oak for framing, pine for paneling, and cedar for shingling, they used this wealth of woods for their New World homes in a way that was both a tribute to their English training and the birth of a real American tradition in house design.

There is always something going on -- fireworks, festivals, fairs, a parade, a tour of East Hampton historical sites, and community BBQs.

The John Drew Theater stage provides dramatic, comedic and musical entertainment, as well as films, lectures, literary series, and staged readings, all featuring prominent artists and writers with ties to the community.

The Guild Hall Museum features world-class art exhibitions of internationally renowned visual artists and emerging regional artists. The Museum also encourages local talent with community art exhibitions. One of the directives of the Museum is to collect, preserve and present the works of accomplished East End artists. They have a significant permanent collection and archive approximately 2,100 works of art.

Today many landscapes, open spaces, and neighborhoods give the Village its historic character. The Main Street core and many outlying properties are reminders of East Hampton's first 250 years as an agrarian community. Certain landscapes recall the picturesque beauty of nineteenth century East Hampton which inspired the visiting artists who promoted the Village as a summer retreat. The summer colony of unpretentious shingled cottages which grew along Ocean Avenue into the Great Plain developed its own open and informal neighborhood character.

Reviews

Better than the photos!

We really enjoyed this home, but the pictures do not do it justice. It is a great location in East Hampton and has a huge and beautiful backyard with cabana house. Loved the kitchen - which is not really shown well and the backyard was filled with pots and pots of blooming red geraniums - beautiful setting. Thank you so much 3rd Home and Mrs. Davis for this opportunity!”
