Description

This luxurious "Tree House" is the epitome of rustic elegance in a secluded setting. It is a 5 bedroom timber frame home on 35 acres nestled in an Aspen Grove at 9600' on the side of Red Mountain, 8 miles south of Crested Butte, CO. This 3RD HOME was custom designed by the owners to achieve a feeling of warmth and rustic elegance.

Winners were announced recently at the AIBD National Convention at the Langham Hunington Hotel in Pasadena California. The panel of judges selected this home for the First Place Award in the category of Custom Luxury homes 3,000 to 4,000 square feet.

Nestled in the gated community of Red Mountain Ranch (RMR) with a 35 acre tract, the private driveway is reached by a 4 mile gravel road from the entrance to RMR.

The master suite is located on the 3rd level; the great room, kitchen and study on the second level; and 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms are on the lower level. More specifically, the master suite has a king bed, two other bedrooms have queens, and the bunk room has a queen and one set of twin bunk beds. There is also a pull out sofa in the downstairs living room to sleep two. The home will sleep 10 to 12 pp if the pull out sofa is used.

The home contains 19,000 board feet of heavy timber frame joined without the use of even one nail. Master craftsmen erected the mortise and tenon timber frame using only the traditional tools of hammer and chisel.

All floors, doors, and baseboards were milled using antique long leaf pine from an abandoned old church in Taylor, Texas.

The owners hand picked the pallets of stone for the fireplace and exterior from a quarry in Arkansas. Outside, you will find a large deck with a fire pit and hot tub.

The funky little rustic town of Crested Butte is listed as an Historic Town and was founded as a mining town in the late 1800's. The town is 20 minutes away and contains wonderful restaurants. Another 10 minutes brings you to Mt. Crested Butte which is a winter ski resort and summer beehive of activities.

Winter activities in the area include downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, dogsledding, and snow-cat skiing. Summer and fall seasons include: fly-fishing, golf, hiking, jeeping, kayaking, and horseback trips.

In the Fall many game can be observed including deer, elk, an occasional moose, foxes, coyotes, marmots, porcupines, and even occasionally a black bear (which are more afraid of us than we are of them).

The general area is surrounded by National Forests and wilderness areas.

Reviews

The Treehouse

While driving down the driveway and after standing in the home, you realize right away why it is called the Treehouse. The Aspen trees and the mountain views are to die for. I've been in many beautiful homes and you can usually find something you might have built slightly differently, not this home. The Treehouse is perfect, from the views, to the kitchen, to the hot tub location, to how the home is furnished.. everything is perfect. The owners are great communicators and you Can tell they want your stay at the Treehouse to go without a hitch. ”
