DOWN UNDER DREAMTIME Journey Itinerary in brief:
DAY1: ARRIVE SYDNEY
Arrive in vibrant Sydney, where you are met and transferred to your luxurious hotel in the city’s historic Rocks area. Overnight in 4-star (OR) 5-star accommodations.
DAY 2: SYDNEY & ZOO WITH A VIEW
Travel by ferry to the Taronga Zoo and step aboard Taronga’s sky safari cable car for fantastic views of Sydney Harbour and the city skyline. Visit exhibits of kangaroos, koalas, wombats, dingoes, echidnas and Australian birds, led by an expert guide. Explore on your own, before departing for lunch at a local restaurant, followed by a tour of Sydney's best sights, such as the Circular Quay, the Royal Botanic Garden, Hyde Park and Chinatown. Evening at your leisure.
DAY 3: SYDNEY, SURFING & JET-BOAT EXCURSION
Head out for a day of sun, sand and surf, starting with a private group surfing lesson at Bondi Beach, and learn about the famous Bondi Beach Lifesavers. Eat lunch like a local at one of the area’s favorite restaurants. Next, transfer to Circular Quay’s Eastern Pontoon for an awesome jet-boat experience. Circle Sydney Harbour, enjoying the stunning sights along the shore and having fun doing spins, slides and fishtails as you go. Return to your hotel for an afternoon at leisure.
DAY 4: FREE DAY IN SYDNEY
Downtime day to relax and explore the city as you wish.
DAY 5: AYERS ROCK: ULURU & SACRED ROCK OF THE ABORIGINES
Fly into the vast Outback of central Australia to your spacious accommodations near mystical Uluru (Ayers Rock), the 600-million-year-old sandstone monolith held sacred by Australia’s Aboriginal people. After some time at leisure to relax and perhaps enjoy a dip in the pool, tour Uluru, walking beside the base of the red-colored marvel and viewing rock art of the ancients. Enjoy canapés and sparkling wine (or a soft drinks and juices) as you watch the sunset over Uluru. Return to your hotel for a spectacular Dinner in the Outback setting under the stars. Overnight at 4-star (OR) 5-star accommodations.
DAY 6: AYERS ROCK: KATA TJUTA & RED SAND DUNES CAMEL RIDING
Rise early and journey through the desert landscape of Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park to view a formation of stone domes also called the Olgas. After lunch at leisure, attend a dot-painting workshop, joined by indigenous artists, and create a keepsake to take home. Then, climb aboard a friendly camel for a sunset ride through the red sand dunes, with inspiring Uluru in the background. Later, sample a selection of local Outback foods, such as freshly baked damper (bread). Evening at leisure to relax and take in some local storytelling by the fire. (Breakfast included)
DAY 7: OUTBACK STORYTELLER OUTING & JOURNEY TO PORT DOUGLAS
This morning, hear captivating tales about survival in the Outback told by an indigenous storyteller. Learn about traditional bush-tucker (food sourced in the bush) and the Aboriginal “survival kit,” including hunting spears and boomerangs. Enjoy lunch at leisure before flying to Cairns. Once there, drive along the scenic South Pacific coast en route to Port Douglas, and settle into your secluded beachfront hotel. Remainder of the late afternoon and evening free to relax. Overnight in 4-star (OR) 5-star accommodations.
DAY 8: PORT DOUGLAS - SNORKELING THE REEF
Head out from the marina for a full day of snorkeling in the idyllic Low Isles of the magnificent Great Barrier Reef. Explore a dazzling and colorful array of corals and fish, and learn the history of this fragile marine environment. Enjoy a tropical buffet lunch as well as morning and afternoon teas. Return to your hotel for a delightful dinner. Evening at your leisure.
DAY 9: PORT DOUGLAS & ABORIGINAL VILLAGE WALKABOUT
Join a member of the Kuku Yalanji people — your Young Explorers Guide — for a tour of their ancestral country around Daintree on a revealing Aboriginal walkabout experience. Walk through rainforest and coastal habitats, learn about cultural traditions and medicines derived from nature, sample some bushtucker and try your hand at spear throwing. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant. Evening free to relax. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
DAY 10: DEPART PORT DOUGLAS
This morning, transfer to the Cairns airport for your departing flight (OR) perhaps consider an optional add-on to further extend your explorations of this beautiful continent.
** OPTIONAL ADD-ON experiences are available for this journey that include a visit to Kangaroo Island (OR) an extraordinary stay at the Saffire Freycinet Resort where you can dine on seafood sourced in the waters of the Marine Farm (OR) Hot Air Ballooning on the Gold Coast over the Yarra Valley and its vineyards. **
